Trailheads With Food Storage Lockers

  • Minimize the amount of food that you bring to the trailhead to ensure space in the food storage lockers for all visitors. Immediately dispose of garbage in proper receptacles.
  • Store food, scented items and bear attractants in the food storage locker at all times, day and night.
  • The following items are food and/or attractants to bears and may give them a reason to break into your car whether they can see the items or not: ice chests, grocery bags, cardboard boxes, sealed drinks, water bottle containers (empty or full), empty coffee mugs, vitamins, gum, candy, and all toiletries including toothpaste, soap, and sunscreen. Please put these items in the food storage locker.
  • Keep food locker doors closed and latched at all times.
  • Store personal items and equipment in your trunk if you have one; or inside the vehicle, covered and out of sight. Keep your car’s interior clean and free of clutter. This will reduce the chance of a bear mistaking an article for food.
