  • Report bear sightings and problems to the nearest Ranger Station.
  • Store anything with an odor or the appearance of potential food in an approved bear-resistant canister or in the trunk of your vehicle.
  • Always keep such items covered and out of sight in your vehicle.
  • Remember that garbage, soap, toothpaste, sunscreen, fishing gear, boxes, ice chests, clothing with food smells, lip balm, etc. have the odor or the appearance of potential food.
  • Never leave items unattended (day or night) in camp unless properly stored.
  • All food should be cleaned up immediately and garbage placed in trashcans immediately during the day and night. Always use bear-resistant trashcans where available.
  • I t is dangerous to try to retrieve anything once a bear has it. If bears do find your food and make a mess, always clean it up after the bear is gone!
