  • Report bear sightings and problems to the nearest Ranger Station.
  • Store anything with an odor or the appearance of potential food in an allowed bear-resistant canister or in the trunk of your vehicle. Always keep such items covered and out of sight in your vehicle. Remember that garbage, soap, toothpaste, sunscreen, fishing gear, ice chests, boxes, clothing with food smells, lip balm, etc. have the odor or the appearance of potential food.
  • Minimize the amount of these items you leave at the trailhead, or, better yet, leave none at all.
  • Keep your vehicle’s interior clean and free of clutter to reduce the chance of a bear mistaking contents with food.
